It's a move that would make Florida great again. I don't know if Chip Kelly wants to go back to college but Florida will try their best to persuade him to come to Gainsville. They recently fired Jim McElwain on October 29th, a day after they lost to Georgia 42-7. Even tho Florida won the SEC East in 2015 & 2016 (and got throttled by Alabama in 2 straight SEC Championship games) with him as the coach, the offense struggled on a consistent basis averaging 23.2 points per game in 2015 (97th in the nation) & 23.9 points per game in 2016 (97th in the nation).
Not much improvement & it's disappointing knowing that McElwain's speciality is supposed to be offense. Recruiting is something McElwain also struggled at as well because when he was there, he couldn't find a QB. Jim got athletes in other positions on offense & defense to come to Florida but that's not saying much to me because recruiting in Florida, there's talent all over the place.
That's where Chip Kelly comes in. His spread system on offense & ability to recruit can bring Florida back to relevancy sooner than later. During Chip's time at Oregon (2007 & 2008 as the offensive coordinator. 2009-12 as the head coach) ...they were ranked 11th in 2007 (38.2 PPG), 5th in 2008 (41.9 PPG), 7th in 2009 (36.1 PPG), 1st in 2010 (45.2 PPG), 3rd in 2011 (45.3 PPG) & 2nd in 2012 (48.5 PPG) in points per game. He recruited guys like Marcus Mariota, LaMichael James, Kenyon Barner, DeAnthony Thomas, Josh Huff, Kiko Alonso & more.
Not only was Chip's Oregon teams among the best in scoring, adding so many styles & colors to the uniforms but Chip Kelly did win 46 of 53 games when he was there including 3 Pac-12 championships & 4 straight BCS Bowl games (2010 Rose Bowl, 2011 BCS National Championship Game in Tempe, Arizona, 2012 Rose Bowl & 2013 Fiesta Bowl. Went 2-2 in those games). For the past few years, Florida has been a hard team to watch since Tim Tebow graduated after the 2007-08 season. Hiring Chip Kelly could not only bring top recuits to the Gators but make games against Alabama & Georgia a lot more competitive than when Jim McElwain was the head coach.
