There was a time just a few weeks ago when Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was thought of as an MVP candidate. But Murray injured his throwing shoulder in Week 11 against Seattle and it appears the injury has stripped him of the thing that makes him one of the most dangerous players in the league: his rushing ability.

Murray has not run the ball effectively since he hurt the shoulder and it has resulted in consecutive losses. Murray averages 6.5 yards per carry on the season but has rushed just 15 times for 61 total yards (4.06 yards per carry) over his last three games.

If he isn’t running effectively, he will need to rely on the pass against New York. Top receiver DeAndre Hopkins will likely be shadowed by Giants star cornerback James Bradberry, so look for receiver Christian Kirk to get a few more looks than normal this week.

The New York Giants had one of the most surprising wins of the season in Week 13 with their victory over Cardinals rival Seattle. The Giants have quietly become one of the strongest defensive teams in the league in recent weeks and have allowed the 10th-fewest points and 10th-fewest total yards this season. New York has also forced 20 turnovers, tied for third in the league behind only Pittsburgh and Miami.

The issue for the Giants this week will be whether they can score any points. Starting quarterback Daniel Jones is questionable to start this game as the second-year signal-caller suffered a hamstring injury a couple of weeks ago and gave way to veteran backup Colt McCoy in the Giants’ win over Seattle. Jones has not been good this year and McCoy is even a downgrade from him.

Rookie running back Antonio Gibson rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown in Washington’s 20-9 win over the Cincinnati Bengals and 115 yards and three touchdowns in its 41-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. Gibson had played a major role in each of Washington’s previous three wins, but when he was forced to leave the game after just two carries on Monday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, it was Alex Smith’s time to step up.

Smith went 31-for-46 with 296 passing yards and a touchdown in Washington’s 23-17 comeback win over the Steelers. Washington trailed that game 14-3 at the half but came back to win it, improving to 3-0 SU and ATS over its last three games since starting the season with a 2-7 SU and 3-5-1 ATS record.

The team enters this week tied for first place in the NFC East with the New York Giants. Gibson is questionable to return on Sunday with turf toe.

One week after putting up a dominant performance in a 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers defense had no answers for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. The 49ers closed as 1.5-point favorites in that game but lost 34-24, falling to 1-4 SU and ATS over their last five games.

It’s difficult to blame the injury-laden 49ers for their recent losses as they all came against likely playoff-bound teams in the Seattle Seahawks (8-4 SU), Green Bay Packers (9-3), New Orleans Saints (10-2) and Buffalo (9-3). The 49ers have a much better chance of being competitive against Washington (5-7), but on the other hand, Washington is playing well and Alex Smith should have a chip on his shoulder playing against his old team.

Carson Wentz isn’t the only problem in Philadelphia. But in a quarterback-driven league, it’s difficult to ignore the struggles of a franchise quarterback. The Eagles lost their third straight game on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks, and Wentz once again looked terrible in completing only 55.6 percent of his passes for 215 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Before picking up 58 passing yards and a touchdown in garbage time to steal a backdoor cover as 6.5-point underdogs in the 23-17 loss to Seattle, Wentz didn’t get much going on offense all game long. His 15 interceptions lead the league by a wide margin. But despite Wentz’s struggles and the team’s disappointing 3-7-1 SU and 4-7 ATS record, there has been no indication the team plans to give Jalen Hurts a shot under center.

Aaron Rodgers picked the Bears defense apart in last Sunday’s 41-25 win as 7.5-point favorites at home. Rodgers completed 21 of his 29 passes for 211 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and no interceptions. The veteran quarterback leads the league in touchdown passes with 33 and has thrown only four interceptions.

With the Packers rolling to their seventh NFC North title in 10 years and with Rodgers still playing at such an elite level, you have to wonder if Green Bay’s front office has any regrets in burning its first-round draft pick in 2020 on a quarterback instead of a player that could have made an impact on this year’s push for a Super Bowl.

Regardless, things are looking good in Green Bay right now with a full three-game lead in the division, an 8-3 SU record and a fairly soft schedule down the stretch.
